Lukla - A world toughest and dangerous airport

Luka - a town in the Khumbu region in eastern Nepal, the transit point of tourists and mountaineers heading to Everest neighborhood. Lukla lies at an altitude of 2860 m. There is no road to Lukla, but there is a small airport. Also see plans to open the first tarmac road from Kathmandu to Lukla.

At the initiative of Sherpas living in the surrounding villages, and other airports in the vicinity of Mount Everest (in particular Namche Bazar) are not used for mass tourism, and the main stream of tourists are walking from Lukla to Namche Bazaar (one day go with a recommended overnight), with Sherpa guides and porters are hired, and local residents include hotels and restaurants. This procedure is also justified in terms of acclimatization, because falling from an airplane once in the highlands, travelers are at risk of mountain sickness.

A small part of the tourists prefer to travel to Lukla walk from Jiri, the trip takes seven days and is very interesting.

Lukla – just a comfortable city in which there is electricity, hotels, restaurants, entertainment, shops, tourist supplies, where tourists can buy, and then, returning from a campaign to sell back any half-price camping and climbing equipment. The same shops there are in Namche Bazar.

Airport

Lukla airport – one of the toughest in the world. Regular flights connect Lukla and Kathmandu, but due to bad weather in the mountains may be delayed. Since the weather is unpredictable in the mountains, and the number of flights is limited, discrepancies often arise when tourists can not fly.
